When we were preparing our own home for our children, we began to look at the textiles that would be closest to their skin. We were looking for blankets that were simple, breathable, and above all, unchanged by industrial chemistry.

As we navigated the aisles of major retailers and scrolled through endless online listings, a pattern emerged. Almost every product we encountered, even those marketed for newborns, had undergone a heavy amount of processing. We noticed the sharp, clinical smell of factory finishes—coatings meant to prevent wrinkling or to add a superficial, silken feel to low-grade fibers. We saw vibrant, artificial colors achieved through deep-soak industrial dyes. We read labels that listed synthetic blends designed for durability and mass production rather than for the specific, sensitive needs of an infant’s skin.

For us, the realization was unsettling. Our family's skin is significantly thinner and more permeable than an adult’s. It is their primary interface with the world.
